Booster Meeting Notes - 8/8/2024

Coaches Report:

Varsity –

• Dawg Duals – December 14th.  Currently, 10 teams including Hampton

Jr. High –

• Head Coach – Joe Bursick will take over the head coaching position

JO Program –

• EBMT – Requesting December 15th to piggyback off Dawg Duals.  Discussed adding a 15u Division as well.

• Sponsors Needed! – Sponsorship pays the bulk of the youth warmups.  Highly

  recommended to show up at the business in person with a wrestler!  Businesses like

  when the athletes put forth the effort to raise money for their team – not the parents.

Fundraising:

• Talbot Tailgate – Tailgate is 9/27.  We will continue to do sumo wrestling, sell caramel apples and water.  Need to get the box off Justine, order prizes (if needed), order sumo suits.

Will have in-person registration available at Tailgate.  Use iPad and/or QR code. Discussed an incentive for registering at Tailgate.  No definite decision was made.  Stacy has reached out to submit the form.  Gretchen also sent an email to the athletic dept for contact information.

•  Meat Raffle – Mike Benaglio suggested a meat raffle, start selling tickets at Tailgate. 

•  NATR – Look at an end-of-October date, maybe do a dress-up to mix it up.  Need someone to chair the event, contact the caller, secure a location, and reserve a caterer.

** If we do October, start selling horses at Tailgate!

Discussion Items:

• Registration – Registration will open on 9/1 with an early registration discount of $25 through October 1.  We will continue to offer an extended discount to HJFA participants.

·        Need to get the signs from Justine

·        Need to get approval from Karen Wheeler & Stacy Martin to share flyers with schools.

·        Send flyers to the Deer Lakes athletic department

•  Girls Club Team – Nick Endres motioned that the idea of a girls' club team as a school-sponsored team is not in the athletic budget this year.  Stacy Rakar seconded the motion, and the board unanimously voted to start a girls club team for grades 7-12.  This will need to be approved by the school board at the meeting on 8/12.  The boosters would be responsible for the club team expenses such as coaches, singlets, etc.  This will most likely be a one-year commitment.

•  Booster Board – We will be voting on the board for the upcoming season at the next meeting in September.  All positions will be voted on and will be accepting nominations.  We will also be looking for committee chairs for things like youth home matches, NATR, stromboli orders, Dawg Duals, EBMT, and Past/Present/Future Night.

•  9/13 Varsity Football Game – This game is a Military/Law Enforcement/First Responder appreciation night.  Proceeds from fundraising will support a scholarship in Officer Kirsopp’s name.  We are looking for ideas as to how Wrestling can support this cause.  Maybe Pasquale’s “Raise Some Dough” event prior to the game and present the check there?  Just one idea.
